Fortnite is no longer only a battle royale. With Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), studios and brands publish their own islands — complete games with custom rules, art and progression — inside one of the world’s most-played games.
UEFN is Epic Games’ version of Unreal Editor for building Fortnite islands. It adds custom meshes, materials, animation, audio and Sequencer to Fortnite Creative. Verse is the programming language Epic designed for Fortnite; it scripts custom game rules, devices, UI and persistent progression.
Islands compete for attention in Fortnite’s Discover screens. A strong thumbnail, a clear first minute, a satisfying session loop and regular updates matter as much as the gameplay itself — and island analytics show where players drop off.
Epic publishes rules for creators and for branded islands, covering content, disclosure and brand use, and every island has memory limits. Checking a concept against them from the start avoids rework before publishing.
